The president has the power to appoint a judge to this position, and the Senate then confirms the appointee. With a Republican controlled White House and Senate, the Republicans can choose whomever they please without being stopped or slowed by Democrats. Many think that since Trump is so close to the possible end of his presidency, he should not be able to appoint a new judge. There are also many who oppose this and believe that he has the power to and should appoint a new judge. Trump has every right to appoint a Supreme Court Justice, but doing so would be morally wrong and goes against the fairness in government that our founding fathers tried to create.

Four years ago, during Obama’s administration, Justice Scalia died with 11 months left in Obama’s final term. Republicans went after Obama for trying to appoint a new justice, Merrick Garland, because Obama was so close to the end of his term. Obama ended his final term without appointing a new justice. Since Trump has been trying to appoint a new justice close to the end of his term, this event has been brought up by Democrats, pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republican party. While Republicans were totally allowed to do this, it is now affecting Trump. Now Republicans want to pass through a justice in one month, despite their opposition to four years ago. The republicans are turning a blind eye to their hypocrisy so they can assume more power. But they are not the only guilty party.

The Constitution, while it covers a lot of parts of the government in detail, does have one loophole that is relevant in this situation. In the first 2020 Presidential debate, Joe Biden was questioned about “packing the court.” Packing the court is appointing more than nine justices. While Joe Biden refused to comment on this issue, many Democrats have stated that they will pack the court if Trump appoints a justice. While this may seem unfair, there is nothing in the constitution prohibiting it. Once again, just because it is allowed does not mean it is morally correct. If Democrats control the White House and the Senate, they could assume total control over the courts. Not only would this be bad for Republicans, but it would be bad for everyone. It would result in countless justices being added to the bench with no defined number to stop. The number of seats on the bench should stay the same, disrupting precedent will only hurt our country more than it is now. We do not need both Republicans and Democrats tampering with precedent.

Our country is in a divided state, two halves of our country separated over who they will vote for. In this state, we do not need politicians stirring the pot. We cannot allow the people who run this country to ruin the framework our government was based on. We need to vote in politicians who will uphold the Constitution. We need politicians whose first concern is to serve the people, not try and gain as much power as possible. It is evident that both sides will go to far lengths to get more influence within the government, and we as the people should see this and do something about it. We have slowly changed from the United States of America to the Republican and Democratic States of America.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-61774842303595829182020-06-09T15:52:00.001-07:002020-06-09T15:52:57.590-07:00Not following the rules puts many at risk for COVID-19Rayna Sirken and Megan Miller
Staff Writers

Ever since COVID-19, everyone has been upset that they haven’t been able to leave their homes and hang out with friends. In our area, Governor Tom Wolfe has implemented strict “stay-at-home” orders, but are people actually following the rules?
No, not everyone is practicing social distancing and not everyone is wearing masks as they should, especially when it’s windy. When people don’t wear masks it’s easier for the virus to spread. It is important to note the purpose of the mask: it protects other people. So, when you see someone wearing a mask, you should know that they are doing so to protect you. When you wear a mask, you are protecting others since most people who are infected go through a lengthy period of being asymptomatic.
In the beginning people would do truck meetups but as it got more serious those started to dial down. People have also been meeting across the bridge in Lambertville to watch the sunset. The one time Rayna went with her sister, they stayed in the car because not everyone was practicing social distancing, and most people seemed to be on top of each other.
When people heard that some people in New Hope had tested positive for COVID-19, they started to take things a bit more serious. Many people started to stay home and a number of them got tested as soon as they thought they might have symptoms. This wouldn’t have happened if people just followed the rules by staying at home. If people start to listen to how serious this virus is, they might start doing things to dial it down but if they keep doing what they’re doing there are going to be consequences as the virus is in control until therapies or a vaccine are developed. People are also looking at the statistics for the week and seeing how they keep going down. They are only going to keep going down if people continue to listen to the rules and stay home.

NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-65626448684255340092020-06-09T14:37:00.003-07:002020-06-09T14:37:47.042-07:00Why classroom learning is the only way to goCheyenne Carr
Staff Writer

Online learning vs. classroom learning. We have all experienced both and have our opinions of both. However, I think that all of us can agree we would much rather be in school right now and to be in class. I had never realized just how hard this online school would be until we started.
Online school can be difficult as far as communicating with teachers and asking questions. It’s much easier to go up to the teacher and ask them a question at school than it is to communicate via email or Zoom. When you don’t understand something or something is wrong on the computer or there is something wrong with technology, it is simply easier to resort to good old-fashioned verbal communication. It’s very difficult for a teacher, librarian or technologist to understand what your problem is when sometimes you don’t even understand it yourself. I also find it annoying that we don’t get to communicate much with our classmates, through group projects or group work.
Being in class is way different, easier, and a much better way of learning. You can communicate with your classmates and teachers way easier, like a human. You are able to get more opportunities for learning by being in class. Even though we have to wake up early and it’s a long day, we still get the opportunities to socialize and get the right way of learning. Not only does it make it a better way of learning for classes, but you get to do all the fun activities that go along with school. Every athlete gets to practice and go to games and do what they do best. I never saw this coming, and never thought I would have to experience online learning.

NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-14882071561399429482020-06-09T14:37:00.001-07:002020-06-09T14:37:24.679-07:00Sexual Assault Allegations Against Vice President Joe Biden Must Be AddressedRyan Viehweger
Copy Editor

I find myself on neither extreme of the political spectrum. Like most Americans, I find myself in the middle on most issues, and I want there to be transparency, especially when handling high stakes situations in government.
It is often tough to seek reliable sources that strive to deliver real information to the American public, without shaping everything to fit a political agenda. This leads me to always be searching for information on a variety of platforms, and at a time when the coronavirus has taken over, it is even more difficult.
Sensationalism has taken over on the news, leading to utter avoidance of other very important things going on in the world. It is no question that the coronavirus must be discussed at all angles, but it also should not be shoved down the throats of Americans, to the point where it is causing more psychological worrying to Americans than warranted.
A story that should be reaching headlines barely even got a mention on the New York Times’ Daily Briefing, are the allegations of sexual assault that Tara Reade accuses Presidential Candidate Joe Biden of.
Counting back to the time when Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh was awaiting approval to the Supreme Court, there was a similar case of sexual assault that was presented. This allegation spread like wildfire and was the top story on the New York Times’ Daily Briefing and other news outlets for several days. They took the allegations seriously, as they should be taken.
However, now that the tables are turned, and Democrat Joe Biden is running for president, allegations against him were swept under the carpet for several weeks. In the plethora of interviews Biden participated in, he was not once asked about the sexual assault allegations and thus did not officially commented on the matter. Just this last Sunday he finally made an announcement denouncing these claims as false. Even though Joe Biden now adamantly refutes the allegations, they should still be investigated.
Sexual assault is a very serious issue and problem that must be analyzed and addressed, no matter who is being accused. I want there to be fairness across the board, and the fact that the mainstream media will go as far to protect the democratic nominee by not reporting these allegations for a few weeks is astounding, and they should acknowledge this double standard. This is not about if Joe said something that can ruffle feathers, like what Trump does, it is about if Joe sexually assaulted a woman, which should never be taken lightly and ignored, no matter whose career could be in jeopardy.
NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-23068387710655277272020-05-07T06:12:00.001-07:002020-05-07T06:12:42.868-07:00Phone Addiction: It’s real, but it was inevitableCheyenne Carr
Staff Writer

I do think teens are addicted to their phones. I’m addicted to my phone, it’s a bad habit but that’s how I grew up. I grew up with two parents and two older siblings who were always on their phone. I used to think to myself: “Why are they always on their phone?” They used to always text when I was trying to talk to them. I thought to myself, that was so rude. But now I do the same thing. I know that parents and most teachers don’t like kids being on their phones 24/7 but that’s the environment we grew up in, they grew up in a completely different one.
I think that phones should be allowed in class. Kids should be able to have the option of being on their phone during class or not. If a student is on their phone during class then it’s their fault if they are not paying attention. If a student has their phone in their backpack then they will always be thinking about who is texting them or trying to get in contact with them. I know it can be distracting but then it’s going to be the student’s problem when they don’t have any of the notes or have know idea what’s going on in class.
Phones can make us feel connected and isolated. We feel connected because we’re always talking to someone on Snapchat or texting someone. How we use our phone for everything. But we can also feel isolated because we might be able to connect to someone over the phone but it’s not the same as connecting in person. There are no emotions or facial expressions over the phone. Kids my age don’t know how to have a real conversation with someone in person.

NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-56997713485729448282020-05-07T06:10:00.001-07:002020-05-07T06:10:57.575-07:00Tips for reducing stress as Lions face unsteady timesBelinda Henry and Kaitlyn Ardite
Staff Writers

Spring is a time of new beginnings but also rain and allergies. From coronavirus to testing to prom, we students have a lot of things that we are worried about this spring. Here are some ways to relax and give yourself a break from the turmoils of modern life.
The benefits of meditation are extensive. It can reduce your body’s stress response, help control anxiety, and strengthen focus. Basically it is like weight lifting for your brain. Meditation has a certain connotation that might repel you, and it kind of sounds extremely boring. You might think that you have to have a long attention span to meditate, or that you have to do it for a really long time. Meditation is just sitting still, closing your eyes, and breathing. There is not only one way to meditate, and there are many guided meditations on youtube as well. Try sitting still and closing your eyes for 5 minutes. If you do this consistently, you will start to feel more aware of your thoughts and your reactions to your thoughts. It is a common misconception that you aren’t supposed to think at all when you meditate. You might find yourself thinking of new ideas, theories, or jokes. You might have trouble focusing due to a looming schedule or overwhelming workload. The trick isn’t to make these thoughts go away, just to notice them, and how they make you feel. By practicing meditation, you will be giving yourself the skills to relax and live in the moment instead of stressing about the future.
Do you like to doodle? Doodling can help you zone out when you are bored, and help you to express yourself. This is actually very mindful! One popular form of art therapy is zentangling. Zentangles are a small design, repeated over and over, like drawing a checker print or pattern. If you google pictures of zentangles, the complicated drawings might seem daunting to attempt, but they are secretly pretty easy. There are so many different designs and tangles, and you can even make your own. Doing this can give you some of the same benefits as meditation. They can be very calming to make, and help to reduce anxiety and anxiousness. Focusing on the small details can help you zone out and destress, and express yourself through art. They are also extremely accessible to try, all you need is paper and a pen or pencil (and maybe your phone for tangle inspiration).
We sit at our desks for most of the day hunched over our computers and homework. Being a student is tough on our spines and bodies, not just our brains. Yoga can be healing for both. There are many different types of yoga to suit your preferences, but most types will help you release body tension, which improves your mood, and direct you to breathe deeply, which helps you slow down and focus on the present moment. It doesn’t matter if you can’t touch your toes or if you can do a split on command, yoga is equally beneficial no matter what level you are at. Youtube has a vast array of yoga instructors who can guide you from the comfort of your own home, which is good for people who are shy about going to a public class, or people who don’t have the time/money. There is a large variety of yoga videos online. You could also go to a public class if you want to get feedback on your form/ you like doing yoga with a group.
Everyone knows that exercise helps you improve your coordination, strength, and general fitness. Improving yourself physically can be one of the most motivating reasons to exercise. For example, you might want giant arm muscles so you can punch walls and impress people, or you might want to get really speedy so you can surprise everyone in the hallway with how fast you are so no one makes fun of you anymore. Besides physical improvement, exercise also helps to produce endorphins, a group of hormones that relieve stress and pain, and it reduces stress hormone levels. Exercising can clear your mind, because when you are working hard physically, your brain will be focused on doing that instead of thinking things like “will I be living the same day over and over until I retire”, or “I have 5 assignments due tomorrow and one hour to do them”. You might think you don’t have the time, but even a small amount of exercise can help you destress. High intensity interval training might be your go to if you only ever have a few minutes. Going on a run after school can be really relaxing, especially outdoors. Outdoors is more moodlifting because you can soak up that vitamin D, enjoy the warm weather, and spend time in nature. Strength training can help you develop a mind to muscle connection in addition to the hormonal benefits. There are countless benefits to regular exercise.
Taking a nap can be beneficial to your stressful life. Working all the time with tires and stressing anyone out and you should just sometimes take a break and sleep. Sleep is important for a healthy lifestyle
You can unwind and destress by taking a bath. This helps alleviate muscles and tension. This also helps to calm your brain down and help you feel at peace.
Cleaning isn’t fun to do, but if you put on your favorite music, and just do it, it will be over before you know it! You might find an old shirt you forgot about in your closet, or discover a horrible animal under your bed. Putting off cleaning could hypothetically let that animal reproduce, make a mess, and infect you. Cleaning often can prevent disasters like on hoarders. It’s a slippery slope, and the longer you wait to start, the harder it will be. Straightening up your room often can prevent situations like this, and will help you feel less stressed long term. It is so nice to come home to a clean bedroom, and your parents will treat you like God if you clean outside of your room.
Sometimes you just need to buy something that will make you happy or lighten the mood to get stress away from you. This includes things you always wanted to buy but never really needed like, a bucket hat or chocolate.
Imagine you were hanging out with a group of elderlies, and you wanted to impress them to earn their trust. A lot of times they will not talk to you directly unless it is about college or work. If this happens, don’t whip out your phone, bring a book with you and read that instead. They will be floored because a lot of them read on facebook that children don’t read. They will hopefully ask you about the book and think of you as a genius and give you fat envelopes of money and leave you the inheritance. That is just one hypothetical example where reading could make you look great. Besides helping you merge with elders and making you look like a genius or like you are trying really hard to look like a genius, reading has many mental benefits. You focus on the content of the book which keeps you in the moment when you read, and as you read more regularly, you will naturally get faster and better at it, which could help you at school. Sadly, there are lots of undesirable books out there, and you have probably read a few. I just read a really disturbing self help book about child conditioning. The more you read, the better you’ll know your preferences. I love science fiction and any book with good character development. I hate anything about the medieval times or dragons. School can make reading seem like a task, but books are really great when you aren’t told what to read. If you like to learn new things, try non fiction. Last year I read a nonfiction book about the dangers of coffee from 1993 and it was hilarious. Another time I read a philosophy book about death and it gave me a lot to think about. Books can change your perspective, tell you an intriguing story, and teach you new information.
If you are stressed to the point of bursting a blood vessel and having a panic attack, one thing that might help you is giving up completely. This may sound silly and like a bad idea, and I don’t mean stop doing work, I mean stop caring so much. You should do your best, but not get upset about the small things and be a perfectionist. Your future doesn’t depend on one small assignment, focus on the major ones. Knowing your priorities and giving up being perfect could help you feel less anxious when it comes to school.
Listening to music is a great way to clear your mind. Listen to your favorite song if you want to wind down at the end of the day or be in a good mood.
Your friends are (hypothetically) always there for you so you should be there for them too. You can make them a card saying how thankful you are or you can make them a homemade present. Either way they are sure to enjoy it, and it will bring some happiness into your day. Helping others can be overlooked. With self care and self love being promoted constantly, you might think focusing on making yourself happy will make you happy, but that is wrong. When you pay attention to others and try to do nice things for people, you will make the world a little bit better, which in turn, makes you feel better. The next time you feel a little bit down, consider that maybe everyone else is too! By improving the attitude of others around you, you will become a more happy person.
Elder advice:
My grandmother is the most relaxed person I know. She says she likes to relax by solving puzzles like sudoku, going shopping, taking walks, hanging out with her friends, praying, and saying “I’ll think about that tomorrow!”

NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-23371168780068856952020-05-07T06:09:00.001-07:002020-05-07T06:09:25.795-07:00Take it from me: Online schooling is not much funGretchen Newman
Staff Writer

With the Coronavirus outbreak, schools are closing all around the world. School work is becoming online so that germs are not spreading around in public. Students get excited that they do not have to wake up early and get ready for school but on the other hand, there is a virus spreading around and most people are quarantined into their house. Although it is a lesser risk on younger kids, parents do not want their kids bringing back anything into their house.
Some online school work is optional and when a student sees optional they most likely are not going to want to do it. Being stuck inside all day, the smarter decision would be to keep up with your school work. For seniors, it is a concern they are not going to have their last senior prom or a normal graduation on time. Students participating in spring sports are all disappointed that their season they have been training for is now cancelled.
Coronavirus is no joke. The fact the actions are being taken with much caution shows how serious this all is. Staying inside where you can not spread or receive germs in the cleanest option you can do right now. As Christmas is looming nearer, everybody is rushing to find the perfect gift for the special people in their lives. They are scurrying to shopping malls and lurking through the dark corners of the internet, desperately searching for inspiration, but is online or in-store shopping better?

In my opinion, good, old-fashioned, in-store shopping is better. When you go shopping in a store it is an experience. You walk in and you can physically see what you may buy. You can feel the quality of fabric, see the fit of the clothing in person, and find unlikely inspiration in a simple, obsolete item.

When shopping online, you are stuck in a desolate wasteland. A desolate wasteland that is perfectly curated to fit your exact search history. Why? Major companies are collecting and analyzing data on you. This data then follows you as you travel through the internet. The same products constantly plague your screen because you made one search and prices keep fluctuating based on the amount of interest you show in the product. It is also creepy. When you go shopping in a store, you do not have to deal with the annoying advertisements, there is only one set price, and nobody is monitoring the items that you are interested in.

This wasteland also makes it impossible to find what you are looking for, impossible to see what you are looking at, and impossible to complete a transaction in a timely fashion. This is incredibly frustrating. Between website crashes, slow internet connection, and the website blatantly not working, it feels like you are pulling teeth. You also have to be very talented in the art of super sleuthing, operating covert missions just to find the dimensions of a candlestick.

Call me antiquated, but shopping is all about experience and shopping in a physical store provides the most pleasant shopping experience.

On Oct. 30, Apple launched the brand new AirPods Pro. Apple made headlines in 2016 with the launch of the original AirPods for $160, but the new AirPods Pro are expected to cost about $100 more. What makes these worth $250 are their major improvements from the original AirPods. The first major improvement is that they are fully waterproof and sweatproof, making them great for working out and using them on the go. Athletes on hot days experienced trouble with the standard AirPods in the past, but the AirPods Pro will not be affected by these harsh conditions.. No other earbuds hold up well against sweat and water.

Another perk is that they have a customizable, specially-designed fit which makes them comfortable in your ear. Instead of one-size-fits-all buds, these AirPods come with three different silicone extensions, small, medium, and large, to attach to the actual device. This is key for a comfortable fit. People are picky when they’re paying a good amount of money for a product, as they expect the most bank for their buck. With the AirPods Pro, consumers will get what they desire.

One of the biggest perks for the AirPods Pro, according to CNET, are the active noise-cancelation and transparency modes. The active noise-cancelling mode has been the number one most wanted upgrade to the AirPods by consumers. “They're the first Apple headphones to offer active noise cancellation, which electronically counteracts exterior noise like the hum of a jet engine.” says CNET. Coupled with transparency mode, a setting that allows listeners to also hear background noise while using the device, AirPods Pro exceeds consumers’ expectations. As stated earlier, these new features are options, meaning you can turn all these modes on and off.

The last of the upgrades, but certainly not least, is the Adaptive EQ mode. This mode is unique to AirPods Pro. Apple says the feature “automatically tunes music to the shape of your ears for a rich, consistent listening experience” that offers “superior sound quality.” This is a huge leap forward for earbud users because they can now listen to the best quality sound with comfort.

With a distinct new look from the outside, the camera is only the first new piece this phone has to offer.
The iPhone 11 being first announced this past September, and now out from releasing Sept. 20, comes in three different models: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone’s new basic model isn’t just an added digit to the X. For its new price margin, it packs a punch. Starting at only $699 with 64GB of storage and six different colors; black, white, purple, green, yellow, and product red. The iPhone 11 introduces an upgrade regarding photography, speed, and battery. Dual cameras, a new night mode for better low-light performance, and ultra wide angle lens. With Apples A13 Bionic Processor, it makes the 11 one of the fastest phones to date along with a battery life of over 11 hours, being above average amongst all smartphones.
The iPhone 11 Pro (starting at $999) or the Pro Max (starting at $1099), comes in four colors, features Triple 12MP Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras with Night mode, battery life four - five hours longer than the iPhone XS, and up to 512GB of storage.
Comparing the iPhone X to the 11, or the XS and XR to the 11 Pro, the choice is easy. Right now these new phones have the most affordable price, fastest processor, and newest upgrades that no smartphone competes with.

NHS Lion's Talehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07031631058653509664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2493813086505720654.post-73002950697405527502019-06-14T09:08:00.000-07:002019-06-14T09:08:24.812-07:00Baseball vs Lacrosse: Which is more of a sport?John Devaney
Staff Writer

One of the biggest debates in our school this year, which kids sometimes bring up at lunch, is a sports debate. The question is simple: Which is more of a sport, baseball or lacrosse?
Usually what happens is the baseball players take their side and the lacrosse players take the other. The argument usually just goes off the rails, with both sides asking: “How many hours do you play?” and “Do you even have to practice for your sport?” Anyone who does not play either sport pretty much has no say in the argument, unfortunately, so they tend to just try and keep the table as civilized as possible, which never seems to work. So, with all the drama circulating around this debate, we might as well break the argument down and understand both sides.
First, we must define what a sport is. Everyone has a different definition, some even consider Esports and golf sports even though they involve almost no physical struggle. The easiest way to settle this is by just taking the dictionary definition: “An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.'' This would at least cancel out Esports, but still both lacrosse and baseball match the definition.
So, what are the arguments for either side? Lacrosse usually brings up how baseball players can just “sit in the outfield and do nothing the whole game,” and baseball players wisely comeback with a universally acknowledged truth: “There is nothing harder to do in sports than hit a 90 mph fastball with a stick.” And the argument just goes back and forth. But in conclusion, it is important to keep an open mind for the opposing side, and consider which sport matches the definition more accurately.
He can warg, which is the ability to move one’s consciousness to an animal, as well as see images of the future and see the past in clear unfractured visions. Dany always had this powerful figure to her, she stood for freedom from the millennia-old Slavers in southeastern Essos. But for some great reason, they decided that her character should now burn residents of King’s landing to nothing more than piles of ash and bone. All because her friend Missandei was killed by Cersei. So, of course, everyone’s new favorite Targaryen, Jon Snow is told by several people to kill Dany. Which makes sense, but what doesn’t is Dany’s instantaneous change from “Breaker of Chains” to crazed dragon lady. She’s lost much more before the final battle at King's Landing. Her former husband Khal Drogo died, most of her close followers were killed early on. I just don’t think that the deaths of Jorah and Missandei really pushed her over the edge to insanity. I wanted to see how New Hope students streamed theirs. I sent out a poll with options such as Apple music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Amazon Music, YouTube, iTunes, the radio and a space to share other venues (which got a response of Clash Royale, which I had never heard of).

Apple Music really just hits different. People can try to change my mind all they want but ultimately we all know Apple Music is superior to Spotify. They cost the same but unlike Spotify which didn't have Beyoncé's Lemonade album that came out in 2016 until 2018, you get new music right when it comes out. Another problem with Spotify, SoundCloud and Amazon Music is that they tend to have missing songs, albums, and artists in their catalogs where Apple music is careful to have all the favorites. This basically comes down to numbers. Apple Music has over 45 million songs in its catalogue compared to Spotify’s 30 million+ song catalog.

Do you think that Apple music is better or Spotify music? Both apps are $9.99 a month. Some positives on having Spotify music is it comes with Hulu. Staff Writers

Field Day. The day we all used to think of for the last few months of school. It was almost as if the whole school year led up to that one day, like Heaven on Earth.
We would get on the bus for school, the smell of sunscreen in the air as the weather would always be perfect that day. Not a schoolbag in sight, only drawstring day packs with lunch and a water. The thoughts of schoolwork and agonizing tests were left behind at home because today was different. The buses would enter the drop off line. The other kids staring out the windows at the bouncy houses inflating, like castles divulging from the ground.
Homeroom would pass by quickly, smiles on everyone’s faces as they were smothered with colors and bandanas. Then the teacher would announce it was time to go, and like a river the kids would flood out of the room and right to the door to the activities.
Eventually though, those days ended. Children became teenagers and parents and teachers thought enough was enough. “They can’t have too much fun” they told each other in agreement. (OK, maybe that last sentence didn’t really happen, but doesn’t it feel like it did sometimes?) And with that, there was no longer any fun in high school, just notes and busy work, leading up to more notes and more busy work.
Which is why we need to bring it back. We all know the last few weeks of school are pretty much a waste of time since we are pretty much done with standardized tests and CBA exams. So, why don’t we just have at least one day of fun? We would have all the students and teachers come together and connect after a stressful year, putting all their differences aside. It would bring back childhood memories and make new memories at the same time. We don’t need all of the fancy things that the little kids have like bouncy houses and slides, obviously those would not work for us now that we are taller and heavier.
All the students want are just a few backyard games. Maybe some cornhole, four square, and ladder toss. Just a little something to wrap up the year and bring everyone back together before moving on to summer.
Victoria’s Secret has been infamously known for creating undergarments that aren't the most comfortable, but now we’ve seen from other companies that you can be beautiful and comfortable all at the same time. A big well-loved endorser of this idea is the company Arie, who is praised for not only their comfort but for their representation of all women. People are done with the perfect facade companies like Victoria’s Secret use to market their brand, and would rather instead see women who look more like them. So to a certain degree, the plummet in sales could be a political statement, or maybe it’s because they dropped they're well-beloved swim line in 2016, which they’re now making an attempt to bring back in order to increase sales. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for this once cherished brand.<span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; font-weight: bold; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-default-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-latin-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-ligatures: none;">

The romantic comedy was an exciting watch that gave insight into the lives of Singapore's elite, while also giving viewers the love story they wanted to see. Almost all the reviews of Crazy Rich Asians were outstanding, which is a tough feat to accomplish. Next to see theatres was the film, A Star Is Born. This movie had fans obsessed with everything about it, and even had some students singing the soundtrack in the hallway. This drama/love story tugged at the heartstrings and guaranteed that you would run out of tissues by the time the film was over. The next big hit in the theatre was the film, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The internet raved about the thrilling plot and had everyone sharing accounts so they were able to watch. Lastly, is the film that fans of the Marvel Universe had been waiting forever. Avengers Endgame blew away all the superhero fanatics in a comedic and thrilling way. The soundtrack to this movie gives feelings of nostalgia, excitement, and heartbreak to viewers of all ages.
One of the biggest debates now a days is which music app do individuals use more. Do you think that Apple music is better or Spotify music? Both apps are $9.99 a month. Some positives on having spotify music is it comes with hulu. It also is cheaper to do a family plan when having Spotify. On the other hand, with not having a family plan, only one person can be on spotify at a time.
Up to six people can access the services using a personal account for each family member. Apple Music members can also share iTunes purchases in addition to catalog content. Apple Music does, however, require all family members to use the same credit card for App Store purchases. This is a downfall if your family would argue about who is paying.
A review on macrumor.com stated “I tried Apple Music a couple of times, but it doesn't even come close to Spotify in my opinion. Spotify has far better-curated playlists. They are great at finding music I prefer. I usually listen to a ton of Indie. Too much corporate stuff pushed by Apple Music and all the "New" stuff they display are same old stuff. When I go to Spotify my "Discover Weekly" playlist is filled with good stuff and hidden gems. I have yet to see Apple make a decent playlist towards my tastes.”
If you're just looking for a free music streaming app and you don't mind ads than Spotify limited version would be highly recommended. Over the years of 2015 and 2018, Spotify has 83 millions subscribers while Apple Music is only 40 million. Overall, Spotify gives more of an option
My groupmates and I decided that we would use the show M*A*S*H for our video. Through the creation of this video project I learned about many elements of the 1950s that I did not know before. Making this video project taught me about the Space Race and Sputnik specifically. I learned why this satellite was sent up and how it was significant. I learned about the civil rights movement, and how in the 50s African Americans were first let into the army. In the early 50s around the time of the Korean war the president decided to finally let African Americans join the US army. I also learned about the duck-and-cover drills also from the era. In the event of an atom bomb being detonated you would duck and cover at the sight of the bright light. I learned about all of these topics during the creation of our video project for Mr. G.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0.5in;"> Soft pretzels originated in Germany, but
since the late 18th century, the Philadelphia area has been the soft pretzel
capital of the world. We are spoiled with many fantastic pretzels but we have
never really thought about which one is truly the best… UNTIL NOW!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0.5in;"> After the great success of The Great
Holiday Nog-Off, the Lion’s Tale taste testers have returned to taste some
solid food: soft pretzels. Felix Timmons returns for his second taste test and
Rachael “The Pretzel Renegade” Callaway substitutes for Colin Keyes who was on
leave to attend the birth of his pumpkin son (not on vacation).

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0.5in;"> We selected pretzels from 5 businesses
in our area (that could be driven to on one Prius tank): Auntie Anne’s, Jim’s,
Philly Pretzel Factory, SuperPretzel, and Nog-Off champion Wawa. Pretzels were
tasted blind and ranked by the two reviewers. The pretzel ranked first received
5 points, second received 4 points, and so on. The scores from the two tasters
were added together to determine the greatest soft pretzel available for
purchase in our area. Here’s the final rankings. For an all-access viewing experience of the tasting process, see the
video review below.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">5. Philly Pretzel Factory
(Felix: 1, Renegade: 1, Total: 2/10)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Possibly
the most popular soft pretzel choice in our area, Philly Pretzel Factory came
into the taste test as an early favorite. The staff at the Lahaska PPF was
enthused when I informed them that they’d be partaking in a taste test for our humble
newspaper and provided us with a free cup of mint cookie dip, but they’re sadly
at the bottom of the pile after our taste test. The pretzel was still very
good, but Felix and the Renegade both put PPF’s pretzel in 5th place.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"> 4. Jim’s (Felix: 3, Renegade: 2, Total: 5/10)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Local
chain Jim’s Soft Pretzels was the underdog coming into the taste test. It was
the only place that would only take cash and its pretzels came in an unassuming
white paper bag, so expectations were not high coming into the taste test.
Felix and the Renegade also liked this pretzel, but with Felix putting it 3rd
and the Renegade 4th, it was no match for the best of the best.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">3. Wawa (Felix: 2,
Renegade: 4, Total: 6/10)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Great
Holiday Nog-Off Champion Wawa returned to The Lion’s Tale Taste Tests to defend
its crown in a whole ‘nother food medium: pretzels. As was the case with every
pretzel in the taste test, it was very good, but it wasn’t good enough for Wawa
to defend its title. If the only place you can get a pretzel in your area is a
Wawa, it’s still a good choice, but it’s far from the best.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">2. SuperPretzel (Felix: 5,
Renegade: 3, Total: 8/10)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">If
Jim’s Pretzels was an underdog in this taste test, SuperPretzel was… an even
bigger underdog (there’s not a more creative way of saying that). While the
SuperPretzel’s wimpy appearance left a lot to be desired, it was surprisingly
delicious. The Renegade only put it in 3rd but Felix put it at the top of his
list. The pretzel that came straight out of the frozen section at Giant was the
Cinderella story of the taste test, destroying favorites like PPF and Jim’s and
taste test champion Wawa to take a shocking second place.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">1. Auntie Anne’s (Felix: 4,
Renegade: 5, Total: 9/10)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">I
didn’t know if it was going to be worth it to drive all the way to the Willow
Grove Mall for two pretzels. After making it to the mall, navigating through
the labyrinth known as Primark, and contemplating what led to the death of the
classic American shopping mall, I was beckoned by the beaming blue and yellow
pretzel atop the food court’s Auntie Anne’s. Tragedy struck when the cashier
informed me that they were OUT OF SALT. A pretzel store ran out of salt!
Defeated, I walked through the dark, lonely halls of a weekday mall hoping to
find a different fifth pretzel for the taste test. After about five minutes, I
started to lose hope, but it all instantly came back when I found a smaller
Auntie Anne’s kiosk on a bridge on the second floor. I then finally acquired my
two salted pretzels. If this epic saga concluded with even an average
performance in the taste test I would’ve been extremely disappointed, but
Auntie Anne’s absolutely delivered. Its fantastic buttery, chewy, salty pretzel
was at the top of the Renegade’s list and finished second on Felix’s. By one
point, Auntie Anne’s is the champion of the Great Bucks County Pretzel-Off!

Staff Writers

For the students at New Hope-Solebury High School, the most annoying thing that every student experiences might not be the homework, projects, or even tests. The most annoying thing of all is the desks with the silver bar which lies next to the right leg.
When sitting in one of these desks, you can feel trapped. There is no room to move around, and at times, you may forget that it is even there and try to get out of your seat from the right side, then you realize the bar is there and you have to turn your body and go out the left side. Those are just some minor problems that the desk causes compared to this one: when you are sitting in a group where all four desks are together in a square, the two desks on the back side of the square have the silver bar trapping them from leaving. The silver bar is on the right side restricting you from leaving and the other person is on your left which leaves you no room to squeeze through. At this point the only option is to slide your desk to the right until you have enough room to get up and leave through the left side without the other person getting in the way. Although this problem has been going on for decades, there may be a solution to this epidemic.
There are two types of desks in New Hope Solebury High School. The annoying desk with the silver bar on the right side of the leg, and the normal desk that has the chair connected to the desk by two silver rods running from the bar of the chair and continues under the chair and back up until it reaches the front of the desk. This type of desk is the ideal desk that all other desks should strive to become. There is no restriction from leaving on the right or left side of the desk. There is a pencil holder which the annoying desk does not offer. You can even stretch your back out on the ideal desk. By pushing forward on the front of the desk and leaning back in your chair, the desk gets pushed forward and chair goes back as a result of the desk and chair being connected. The outcome of this is the perfect back stretch which you cannot get with the annoying desk.
For all the hard work that the students of New Hope Solebury High School produce on a daily basis, all students deserve the highest quality desks available. With the annoying desks gone, and the ideal desk being the only desk in the school, grades and attendance will skyrocket due to the new comfort of the school. It may even be very positive for the students.
However, 93% of high schools in the U.S start before 8:30, including our own. As children mature, they experience a delayed circadian rhythm, causing later sleep onset and later morning awakening. Most teenagers cannot fall asleep before 11:00 pm. Adolescents need 8-10 hours of sleep every night for optimal well-being, so a teenager who falls asleep at that time should sleep until 7:00 am, at the least. Schools should recognize these biological shifts and start high schools and middle schools later while starting elementary schools earlier.<span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; font-weight: bold; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-default-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-latin-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-ligatures: none;">

Many teenagers do not get enough sleep due to late nights dedicated to school work and early mornings to get to class on time. Students who don’t get enough sleep are at risk of being overweight, suffering depression, and performing poorly in school. Not getting enough sleep can also put you at risk for other medical issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and permanent cognitive issues. Young drivers also have a higher accident risk when sleep deprived, so later start times is crucial for safety.<span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; font-weight: bold; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-default-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-latin-font-family: "Baskerville Old Face"; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Although
some believe that widespread access to guns tends to result in increased deaths
due to gun violence, decreasing the number of guns through gun control and
other restrictive laws would serve to do more harm than good, and would
disregard a constitutional right. Provided in the constitution is the right to
bear arms, second on the list only to freedom of speech, press, and religion.
To place restrictions and controlling laws on ownership of guns is not only a
violation of a constitutional right, but belittles law abiding citizens.
Additionally, crime rates would not diminish as criminals do not tend to
legally purchase and carry firearms. Restrictions would only serve to benefit
the criminals, as those who purchase lawfully would be unable to protect themselves
and prevent crime. Institution of gun control would, furthermore, detract from
those who hunt and partake in competitions.

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> In laying the groundwork for what is now
the great nation of the United States of America, the Founding Fathers composed
a set of given rights. One of those rights is the Second Amendment, provided by
the United States Constitution. The second amendment ensures the right to
individual ownership of guns. With that being said, the amendment does not
provide unlimited rights within the realm of owning a gun. In fact, gun control
laws have been around since before the constitution was drafted and ratified.
Such early restrictions include: criminalizing the transfer of guns to
Catholics, slaves, indentured servants, and Native Americans; regulating the
storage of gunpowder in homes; banning loaded guns in Boston houses; and
mandating participation in formal gathering of troops and door-to-door surveys
about guns owned. Times have changed drastically since, as have gun control laws.
The lack of clarity within the amendment is the constant cause for debate,
specifically on topics such as the right to concealed carrying, which is not
explicitly mentioned. What is undebatable is that the Second Amendment protects
individual gun ownership. As the amendment reads: "A well-regulated
militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the
people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." To surrender the
right to bear arms would be a step in the direction of surrendering liberty,
which is not something we should give up easily, nor should our responsibility
to protect our families be turned over to others for a false, temporary feeling
of security.

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> In terms of crime, guns are not
necessarily the problem. In fact, statistics show that gun ownership serves to
deter crime, rather than to promote or work consequently. A 2014 article about
concealed carry laws and gun-related murders, written by Mark Gius, found that,
“assault weapons bans did not significantly affect
murder rates at the state level" and "states with restrictions on the
carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murders.” That same study
concluded that as “gun ownership doubled in the twentieth century, the
murder rate decreased.” Furthermore, “States
with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in
violent crimes... The effect on 'shall-issue' [concealed gun] laws on these
crimes [where two or more people were killed] has been dramatic. When states
passed these laws, the number of multiple-victim shootings declined by 84
percent. Deaths from these shootings plummeted on average by 90 percent and
injuries by 82 percent" Another study presented that, “Based on survey
data from a 2000 study published in the Journal
of Quantitative Criminology, U.S. civilians use guns to defend themselves
and others from crime at least 989,883 times per year.” Additionally, a survey
conducted in 1994 found that about half a million Americans had used guns to
scare off intruders. Overall, the data provided by countless studies validate
that gun ownership is an effective form of deterring crime.

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> Switzerland is an excellent example of
this. According to a Business Insider article written by Hilary Brueck,
Switzerland has a stunningly high rate of gun ownership without any mass
shootings. Their last mass shooting was in 2001. The country has around 2
million privately owned guns in a nation with 8.3 million people. Compared to
the average American gun owner who owns three guns. In fact, three percent of
Americans own half of the guns in the nation. In the year 2016, Switzerland had
only 47 attempted homicides with firearms. America had roughly 38,658
gun-related deaths in 2016 and 300 mass shootings in 2018 so far. Switzerland’s
overall murder rate is near zero. The NRA often uses Switzerland to argue that
guns do not need to be further restricted. However, Switzerland does have a few
regulations that lead to the miniscule level of gun-related crimes. Switzerland
has an annual shooting competition for boys that dates back to the 1600s. This
teaches their citizens how to safely use guns. Additionally, most Swiss men are
required to learn how to use a gun due to their mandatory military service
requirement. Because of this, roughly a quarter of armed citizens use their
guns for military purposes or police duty. Those who are allowed guns have to
follow a strict licensing process. Swiss authorities decide on a local level
whether to give people gun permits. They also keep a log of everyone who owns a
gun in their region. People who've been convicted of a crime or have an alcohol
or drug addiction aren't allowed to buy guns in Switzerland. Some American
states, like New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island are
considering implementing similar regulations. In New York, a gun owner must
also register with the local police department. This would account for if the
population of Americans with mental disorders, like addiction, who are prone to
violent behavior, should have guns.

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> Other than for needs of protection, guns are
used for hunting and sport. To quantitate, in 2011, there were 13.7 million
hunters 16 years old or older in the United States, and they spent $7.7 billion
on guns, sights, ammunition, and other hunting equipment. Every year, high
power rifles are used in competition, sport, and hunting by many Americans,
those who chose to exercise their given rights. Often, so-called “assault
rifles,” which appear to be too powerful to need for protection and to hunt,
are much less powerful than they appear. Rather than being used senselessly,
assault rifles are used by those who choose to exercise their Second Amendment
right in competition venues, in addition to hunting and protection. According
to The Tribune Papers, the term, ‘assault weapon’ is often misconstrued and was
conjured up by anti-gun legislators to scare voters into thinking these
firearms are something out of a horror movie,” but in fact, “the Colt AR-15 and
Springfield M1A, both labeled 'assault weapons,' are the rifles most used for
marksmanship competitions in the United States.” As Gary Lewis, outdoorsman and
hunting enthusiast, put it best: “When you climb to the top of some ridge or
mountain peak, pitch your tent beside a clear blue lake or take to the woods to
hunt deer, remember you live in a free country and that our ancestors had the
foresight to help keep it that way.”

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> Even so, our founding fathers were not
thinking of sport shooting or hunting when they wrote the second amendment into
the Constitution. They were talking about human’s eminent right to self-defense
and the security of a free state. A popular belief of those wanting stricter
gun control is that a semi-automatic weapon is not necessary for hunting. The
second amendment is about the collective right of each individual American to
lawful defense. If the second amendment is infringed upon, it gives leeway to
violation of the rights owed to us as American citizens. Any imposition of blind restrictions or bans
would be unconstitutional and infringe upon citizens’ rights and feeling of
security. Therefore, it would be a violation to regulate or prohibit gun
ownership. Still, some continue to believe widespread access to guns results in
increased deaths due to gun violence. In the end, it is actually more
detrimental to decrease the number of guns through gun control and other
restrictive laws, in terms of both human rights and safety.
