Jelly’s Corner (November Edition)

Dear Jelly,
I have hallway duty. Students are often sitting in hallways without passes. Some of them do not even check in with the library. how can we stop these shenanigans?
-Distressed Hall Monitor

Dear Distressed Hall Monitor,

Thank you for the question!
Here at Jelly’s Corner we are anti-hall pass as we believe they are dehumanizing, bad for the environment, and detrimental to the health and well-being of the student body.
I am about to go off to college, but I still need a pass to use the bathroom? Something doesn’t add up, and we aren’t talking about O’Hara trying to do math in his head!
Hall passes send the message that us students aren’t trusted, and that is very disheartening.
Here at Jelly’s Corner we believe that students will only have confidence in themselves if the staff trusts us to go to the bathroom without a pass.

  1. Hi Jelly,
The part of your statement regarding,"detrimental to the health and well being of the student body" was collaborated last year in another issue where the writer went into detail about the unsanitary yellow hall passes used by multiple students.
Now there was a time when high school and middle school students were given their own daily planner. I see no reason as to why students can't use their own with the teachers signing the books as students leave the room.
Also how about urging the two student reps to the school board to include your concerns in their public reports?
